Abstract : This project covers the determination of the lateral diffusivity of single spherical particles in an isotropic turbulent air flow and the corresponding Lagrangian velocity autocorrelation coefficient. The particles vary in size, density, and in time constant, and have a stable wake. Complete data on the 87 micron corn pollen have been obtained. The particle positions have been measured from the negatives and punched on IBM cards. A computer program was written to calculate the average, root-mean square, skewness, and the kurtosis, and to find the probability density of the particle positions. The results of these calculations are presented. Measurements of the turbulence in the wind tunnel have been completed. The data are presently being analyzed. (Author)
