Abstract : The objective of this study was to determine if in vortex flow the heat transfer from a centrally located heat source would be better than in straight axial flow. The two flow fields were confined to the region between a 1.625-inch diameter test cylinder and a coaxial 0.50-inch stainless steel heater tube. The flow characteristics are presented as velocity and temperature profiles for five stations along the test cylinder. Flow direction angle profiles are presented for the vortex flow case. (Author)
