Abstract : Using chlorinated polyester resin and prefabricated fiber glass reinforcement, an improved application system for preparing remote landing and takeoff sites for VTOL aircraft was successfully demonstrated. The equipment prepared 6-foot wide strips of about one-pound-per-square-foot at a rate of 50 lineal feet per minute. Pad materials were of two types: one, a low temperature system for VTOL pads where short-term temperatures will not exceed 800F, and the second, a high temperature system for VTOL pads where short-term temperatures will not exceed 3000F. Additional site design data for site size and density were developed. (Author)
