Abstract : A test of the effectiveness of ground-released pyrotechnics in enhancing precipitation has been made during the period of January through April, 1968, over the mountains and valleys of Santa Barbara County. The method used was to seed from a point source located on a 3500 ft. ridge line into passing convection bands. The bands were detected and tracked into the test area by a telemetered gage network in an upwind control area. A weather radar on the ridge line aided in this. Once a seedable band reached the seeding site, a decision as to whether or not to seed that particular band was made by random selection. A sample of 11 seeded and 11 non-seeded bands was obtained within 8 separate storms. (Author)
