Abstract : Page control schemes have been developed which are suitable for use in a multiprocessor with associative control. These schemes consist of two parts: page swapping and page lookahead. Page lookahead is a technique for predicting future page needs, and page swapping, given the current and future page needs of the system, is the decision-making algorithm that directs traffic in and out of main memory. The page control schemes developed are applicable to both negligible-access-time memory (NATM) and head-per-track disc (HPTD) types of secondary-storage subsystems. To evaluate the page control schemes a simulation model of the multiprocessor with associative control has been completed. In addition a job generator has been developed to provide realistic jobs for the simulation run. Simulation runs were made that show the effectiveness of the page-swapping algorithm and page lookahead for both the NATM and HPTD secondary store models. (Author)
