Abstract : A comparative analysis was made of five mathematical techniques, capable of computer implementation, for rejection of erroneous data outliers (data points with extreme deviation from the main body of data). For each technique, applications were developed for independent and dependent data. The rejection technique described in the report as one-point iterated rejection proved most effective for both types of data. The best results were achieved when this technique was applied to the sample as a whole rather than to separate subdivisions of the sample. (Author)
