Abstract : This program was conducted to evaluate the thermal protection properties of selected fibrous materials and leathers intended for use in Air Force flight gloves. The relative heat transfer properties of the candidate flight glove materials are described and characterized. The thermal protection and shrinkage in flame data obtained are compared. Of the commercially available materials tests, Nomex (simplex knit) exhibited the best overall resistance to heat transfer and shrinkage on exposure to a 2400 F flame. The one experimental fabric tested was PBI; its heat resistant properties were higher than those of Nomex. (Author, PL).
