Abstract : A method of describing the probability distribution of events, which are realizations of an arbitrary combination of digits '0' and '1' in binary signals, is given. It consists of a number of variables 'n' of digit '1' (or '0') probabilities related directly to signals, and a number of 2n-n-1 parameters, called correlation coefficients, which describe intesignal dependence. The effect of the correlation of useful signal to disturbance on the system reliability is considered. Dependencies making it possible to analyze the reliability of a system divided into layers of logic functors are given. The concept of representing the switching function in probability and correlation-coefficient space is introduced. It is pointed out that the concept makes it possible to interpret switching-circuit problems as problems of the separation of signal from noise and that this concept can be used for a switching network synthesis with a minimum of switching stages.
