Abstract : A theoretical development of a method for determining refraction characteristics of the atmosphere is described. The determination is based on data obtained from navigational satellites. Thus, the only instrumentation required by the method is a receiver for the signals from the satellite, and a computer. A principal purpose for determining atmospheric refraction characteristics would be the location of possible ducting and trapping layers. An estimate is given for the degree of accuracy that the method requires of the data received from the satellite to accomplish this purpose. (Author)
