Abstract : A 3.2-mm, 10-kw wave oscillator is being developed for use with high-resolution radars. A distributed interaction Klystron (DIK), the tube is a linear-beam device which differs in construction from a backward-wave oscillator in its slow-wave structure. This structure has a short axial length and terminates at both ends in shorting plates. The magnetic potential appears across a short gap, enabling the use of relatively light and small magnets. Like the backward-wave type, the DIK tube is electronically tunable, but the output of the DIK is in discrete, narrow-band modes rather than in continuous modes. (Author)
