Abstract : This report summarizes studies conducted in connection with problems occurring in high speed combustion configurations. Although the work is basic in nature, the choice of particular aspect for investigation was oriented towards conditions pertaining to supersonic ramjet engines. The specific tasks which were considered in this report include (1) the theoretical and experimental investigation of feasibility of inducing subsonic flow by viscous and diffusive mechanisms alone in initially supersonic streams of air and hot combustion gases without development of normal or strong shocks, and (2) the investigation of the applicability of current phenomenological models for the turbulent transport coefficients, i.e., eddy viscosity, conductivity and diffusivity, by carrying out numerical computations of the temperature, pressure and concentration fields of an appropriate mixing configuration using various phenomenological transport models, and then comparing these results with results of corresponding experiments.
