Abstract : The purpose of this program was to study the effect of high strain rates and elevated temperatures on the mechanical properties of three grades of beryllium: S-200, I-400 and Ingot Sheet. Uniaxial tension and compression tests were conducted at strain rates of .001 to 1000/per sec. The test temperatures ranged from 72 to 700 F. This report includes a literature survey and a discussion on the problems encountered during testing in addition to the presentation and discussion of results. The influence of oxide content, grain size, and fabrication history on the strain rate sensitivity and other mechanical properties of beryllium is examined. (Author)
