Abstract : The report describes a study conducted to determine experimentally the effectiveness of heated rolls in hot rolling. Concurrent with these studies was an investigation of several metalworking areas where the use of heated rolls can provide temperature control. These areas included thermal-mechanical working of steels, rolling of foils and clad composites, and superplastic behavior. The use of a molten glass lubricant in conjunction with various rolling operations also was studied. (Author)
