Abstract : Electromagnetic waves backscattered from randomly rough surfaces such as those of earth terrain, the sea and the moon have been measured at radar frequencies. However, the wavelength dependence reported by these authors is not in agreement even when the backscattering measurements are from a similar medium, such as the sea and for similar regimes of radar wavelengths and angles of incidence. In this study similar measurements were made on rough surfaces wavelengths, namely lambda = 3.39 microns and 10.6 microns for angles of incidence up to 80 degrees. The light sources consisted of the He-Ne laser and the CO2-N2-He laser. Two aluminum surfaces were used as the scatterers. (Author)
