Abstract : The bottom and sub-bottom morphology of the main shipping channel from Can Gio to Sai Gon, South Vietnam, has been investigated using a high frequency, shallow penetration, high spatial resolution, continuous seismic profiling system. Generalities regarding the bottom morphology are as follows: Sai Gon River, cyclic ridges with amplitudes ranging from 6 to 22 feet and wave lengths ranging from 75 to 100 yards; Nha Be River, irregular to smooth and flat and some small cyclic ridges with amplitudes up to 6 feet; upper Long Tau River, highly irregular with topographic or scour depressions up to 45 feet; and lower Long Tau and Nga Bay Rivers, smooth and flat.
