Abstract : Coherent X-ray scattering from beryllium was investigated in order to provide experimental confirmation of theoretical predictions of cross sections which had been made for low z elements. High purity beryllium powder was cold-pressed and sintered into a scatterer for an SRI constructed vacuum diffractometer. Xenon sealed proportional counters and a monitor feedback loop were used. The 12 lowest order Bragg peaks were measured by using copper K sub alpha radiation. The data were expressed as coherent differential scattering cross section per atom as well as the coherent scattering factor for neutral beryllium. The data were compared with theoretical calculations from the literature. The mean data values were 1 percent higher than published values of atomic scattering factor in the range 0.25 < sin theta/wavelength < 0.61. The rms deviation of the data was 5.9 percent. (Author)
