Abstract : A theoretical study of several computational techniques for estimating wavenumber spectra is presented. Relationships among the techniques used for computing high-resolution wavenumber spectra are investigated. Stability and resolution of their estimates are compared. Methods for computing 2-dimensional maximum-entropy spectra are found to be impractical, and it is concluded that the maximum-likelihood technique provides the best estimate for most purposes.
