Abstract : Flight tests were conducted to determine the correct hatch openings and evacuation procedures to be used in case of an inflight fire. The results of this test indicated that the cargo door should be used for evacuation whenever possible, but if any hatches forward of this door are opened in conjunction with the cargo door an unfavorable flow is encountered. For most efficient evacuation, it was determined that both hatches on the side opposite the fire can be used even though some inward flow is experienced at the most rearward hatch. (Author)
