Abstract : The effect of surface alloying on the creep behavior of titanium (6Al-4V) and aluminum 7075-T6 alloy was investigated. It was observed that surface alloying titanium with aluminum or chromium reduces the transient creep strain as well as the steady-state creep rate. The ratio of the creep rate of bare to coated specimens was 38.6 at 550F for an applied stress of 85,000 psi. At higher or lower stress the ratio was smaller. (Author)
