Abstract : An extensive geologic, geophysical, and material property investigation was conducted by the Air Force Weapons Laboratory at the Estancia Valley test site, New Mexico. The geologic investigation consisted of surface mapping, core analysis, seismic refraction, crosshold and uphold surveys, and in-situ borehole geophysical measurements (caliper, three-dimensional velocity, continuous velocity, density, nuclear, and electrical resistivity logs). The material property investigation consisted of numerous laboratory tests (density, porosity, unconfined compression, triaxial compression, sonic velocity, etc.) used to define the constitutive relations of the rock media. The test area is underlain by a desimentary sequence of shales, sandstones, conglomerates, and limestones. (Author)
