Abstract : The titanium-aluminum-zirconium ternary system from 50 to 75 atomic percent aluminum was investigated at the 1650F (900C) isotherm. Twenty-nine specimens were examined by x-ray diffraction and metallography and the approximate phase boundaries were determined from the data obtained. All the specimens studied in this region were very brittle. This study indicates that three solid solutions exist in this region of the ternary system. In addition to the previously known TiAl solid solution, this study located solid solution alloys based upon the phases, ZrAl2 and ZrAl3. No ternary intermetallic compounds different from previously known binary phases were found. (Author)
