Abstract : Measured excursions in the history of creep at constant stress caused by small changes in stress are compared with predictions based on a Rabotnov-Shesterikov equation of state for creep. Good qualitative agreement is found, although the predicted values of creep excursion are an order of magnitude less than the measured values. A similar trend is found when comparing measured and predicted damping parameters, the quantitative differences being even more pronounced. It is concluded that a thorough examination of both theory and experiment will be needed to resolve the quantitative differences. (Author)
