Abstract : Certain methods of calculating the natural frequency of axial vibration of bladed wheels have led to considerable errors by neglecting blade deformation. A method based on the Rayleigh-Ritz principle is presented, which considers the deformation of blades around the two main axles caused by inertia. It provides adequate values for all turbine wheels, permits establishment of the higher-than-natural frequency of the blades, the shape of vibration and the approximate variation of vibration stresses. It also considers the influence of rotation and unequal heating.
