Abstract : An engineering model of a 100 MHz, laser recorder was designed and built. The recorder demonstrated a dynamic range in excess of 50 decibels, a recording time of 50 microseconds, and a rise time of a little better than 3.5 nanoseconds. The engineering model recorder included a single active channel and an unmodulated 'dummy' channel. However, up to 5 active channels may be included in the recorder's 3.3 cu ft volume, and 15 channels may be included in the maximum volume of 6 cu ft. An airborne, wideband, laser recorder will be built based on the design and performance of this engineering model recorder. (Author)
