Abstract : The dielectric constants of dry ambient air, nitrogen, oxygen, and carbon dioxide are determined by measurement of the resonant frequency shift in an evacuated and gas-filled cavity frequency meter. The results of the measurements are presented for each gas at integer frequency from 18 through 21 GHz. Although other experiments indicate that there should be no change in this region of the microwave spectrum, the results differ by an average of 1.39% when compared to previously published results of other microwave frequencies. An analysis of the experimental equipment and recommendations for improvements of the equipment are presented. (Author)
