Abstract : The reactions of partially dissociated oxygen with heated graphite surfaces have been investigated by fast flow and mass spectrometric techniques. Results were obtained in the fast flow system for the fraction of oxygen atoms leaving the graphite surface as O2, CO, CO2, over the temperature range 1200-2000K. Experiments were conducted at partial pressures of O and O2 of 0.036 and 1.4 torr respectively. The mass spectrometer experiments were carried out over the temperature range 400-1200K, and differences were observed in product distribution and intensity as a function of oxygen molecule dissociation.
