Abstract : An experimental marine fouling study was conducted off southern Sardinia during the period 9 January to 27 July, 1963. Unattended test panels were exposed on vertical arrays moored in 60 meters of water; styrofoam sonar targets were used for subsurface buoyancy and location. Twenty such arrays were planted by MINDIV 43 in January and two were recovered by MINDIV 84 in July, using sonar for location and EOD divers for recovery. The fouling attached to the two recovered arrays is described in detail in this report. Generally, the fouling was moderate to severe in intensity with density increasing with depth. The dominant forms were mollusks, tubeworms, and hydroids. (Author)
