Abstract : Project Drill Hole was conducted at McCormick Ranch test site for the following specific objectives: To examine the applicability of the findings of the HEST parameter study to large-size overpressure facilities; To expand knowledge of free-field ground motions; To assess the influence of two radically different instrumentation backfilling techniques on the continuity of the free field; To expand knowledge of the effects of the HEST environment on both surface inputs and free-field soil measurements; To assess the performance of air pressure transducers, and to evaluate the performance of a quarter-size launch control center; To evaluate the response of ultra-high frequency and low-frequency antennas in a HEST environment; To compare the behavior of cylindrical structures with and without foam-sulphur backpacking when placed at different depths of burial; and To evaluate the feasibility of reducing the pulse generated by the fallback of the surcharge by dispersing the surcharge with a secondary detonation.
