Abstract : The report describes two methods developed to measure and compare, throughout a television media, the characteristics of spatial scenes. The characteristics are quantified when the methods are used and the measurements are objective. The first method measures the discernable edges per unit length across the display scene and describes the display scenes complexity numerically. This is done in terms of information theory and multivariate dimensional analysis. The second method numerically measures the total effectiveness of several sequential video transmission elements connected in series and the overall visual display effectiveness of a display scene. This is done by assessment of comparative effectiveness and numerical weighting. (Author)
