Abstract : The firing range leg of the free-flight trajectory and the reentry leg were investigated in connection with gravitational acceleration that was thought of as being constant and with and without air resistance. In both cases air resistance has a considerable influence. The bend in the entry leg can not be disregarded. Linearization of the resistance-free firing range formula causes only unnoticeable error. The accuracy requirements on the cutoff magnitudes appear to be somewhat higher than previously thought. With regard to the missile the firing range formula that was set up and linearized without taking air resistance into consideration can be realized with two accelerometers set at different angles.
