Abstract : The report is concerned with an evaluation of design techniques for hard rock missile silos, with application also to other types of lined tunnel systems in rock. The principal effort summarized herein concerns design of rock silo and rock cavity linings, methods of estimating in situ rock quality and modulus of deformation, and supplementary comments on the present state of knowledge and recommendations for future work on aspects of rock properties, excavation techniques, structure-medium interaction, strain concentrations, design specifications, and other topics related to improvement of the capability of hardened facilities.
