Abstract : Motion of a 103-inch diameter optical collimator in several different configurations was recorded and analyzed. Testing was conducted over a period of nine months. The data was digitized, then analyzed by Fourier transform techniques. The Fast Fourier Transform computer program was used for this procedure. The results show that the collimator has a steady-state motion of a micron or less at frequencies less than five cycles per second. In the 'as-built' configuration, the primary mirror moves at different frequencies and amplitudes than the main chamber. With the invar chamber blocked to the outer chamber, near the primary mirror, the primary mirror and main chamber move as a rigid body. There is little or no difference between collimator motion at ambient pressure or under vacuum. (Author)
