Abstract : A novel approach to computing the attitude transformation matrix of a strapdown inertial system is investigated. While related to prior techniques which recover angular rate information and integrate the attitude matrix differential equation, this approach intentionally delays the angular rate calculations in order to incorporate 'future' gyro outputs. It is demonstrated that the ensuing delays in calculation of position and velocity do not cause significant navigation errors and that the subject technique gives generally superior attitude-keeping performance over a wide range of conditions.
