Abstract : Preparation of the ternary zirconium-yttrium and zirconium-magnesium mixed oxides solid electrolyte samples of varied composition and measurements of their electrical conductivity in the 700-1300 degrees centigrade range were described to verify earlier conductivity data and to determine the region of stable cubic mixed crystals. This stable region of compositions was expected to exhibit the most faborable property for application in the solid electrolyte fuel cell. Four series of samples were prepared, each with a constant given content in the 80-86 mol percent range. The Y/Mg ration was varied with each series. Platinum layers sintered on the samples served as the electrodes. Relationships were reversed at temperatures above 1000 degrees centigrade. Stability of the samples was evaluated by means of measurement as a function of heat-treatment, i.e., of the phase composition of the samples. (Author)
