Abstract : This study provides biographical information and operational data concerning the total work load, the pattern of work activities, and a number of work-related variables (sleep habits, subjective responses) associated with a sample of U.S. Marine Corps fixed wing and helicopter pilots serving in the Republic of Vietnam. For both groups of pilots, subjective measures, indicators of the amount and quality of sleep, measures of dependency on alcohol, and weight loss showed substantial promise as variables relevant to determining the effects of stress and fatigue. It is recommended that future studies develop more precise measures of these variables in order to establish with greater clarity their relationship to operational factors. (Author)
