Abstract : The primary purpose of this study was to program and simulate advanced flight command computations for flight command functions common to many missions. A systems approach is taken in making use of available aircraft sensors and/or radio information to accomplish mission objectives. The functions simulated were horizontal (area) navigation, horizontal steering, vertical navigation, pitch control, energy maneuverability (optimum climb), and automatic throttle. Both completely automatic flight and manual (display) steering were simulated. The simulation was conducted at the hybrid computation facilities of the Air Force Flight Dynamics Laboratory, Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio. The aircraft characteristics used were those of the F-4C. (Author)
