Abstract : An experimental model was assembled and tested to demonstrate integration of REST (Radar Electronic Scan Technique) into a monopulse tracking radar. Successful tests were made against stationary targets on an outdoor range at Moorestown, N.J. The REST modification entailed removal of the large dish reflector from an AN/FPQ-4 radar pedestal, and substitution of a similar-size spherical-planar lens assembly. The new assembly, like the original dish, is mechanically pointed in azimuth and elevation angle by the pedestal servo driver. When pointed at a specific angle however, the new assembly affords an additional electronic agile beam steering capability over plus or minus 5 degrees in azimuth and in elevation angle. This agile beam steering complements the overall hemispheric coverage provided by the pedestal servos and facilitates target acquisition and multiple target handling. (Author)
