Abstract : A high-power, moderate-Q transmitting antenna, designed for reduced intercoupling effect and improved utilization of real estate, was developed for shore-station use. Two engineering prototypes were installed: a 4 to 8 MHz version at the U.S. Naval Station, Mare Island, California, and an 8 to 16 MHz unit at the U.S. Naval Radio Station, Dixon, California. In addition, model measurements of reradiation characteristics were made of five broadband antenna types. Of these, the sleeve antenna appears to be superior for minimum reradiation. This antenna is recommended for use in the 16 to 32 MHz range where the moderate-Q design would not be needed. (Author)
