Abstract : The requirement exists to improve the efficiency of logistic support systems employed during the amphibious assault and follow-on assault operations. New materials become available, which if properly used, could greatly improve the operational effectiveness of the system. This report documents the results of an investigation made to determine the potential improvements possible from the use of lightweight aluminum or fiberglass reinforced plastic pipe in the 600 GPM Bottom Laid AABFS. Findings of the investigation indicate that the operational and logistic problem resulting from the requirement for counterweighting or anchoring of the lightweight pipe will nullify any potential improvements to be gained from its use in the 600 GPM Bottom Laid AABFS.
