Abstract : From the laws of topocentric satellite movement the requisite working formulas have been derived, by which satellite tracking in direction and velocity can be realized using a Zeiss camera. The parameters of the approximating small circle and the course of the satellite along it can be calculated electronically. For various object brightnesses the necessary tracking duration and accuracy at the point image are indicated. The introduction of the momentary velocity information is accomplished by means of punched tapes, for which the necessary conditions have been established. Tracking accuracy essential for the image definition is satisfactory for given observations, if a satellite trajectory of arbitrary culmination height is replaced with a zenith trajectory with equal culmination velocity.
