Abstract : Theoretical bottom reflection losses were obtained as functions of grazing angle and frequency in the region of 0.1 to 4.0 kHz. Both calculated and experimental bottom reflection losses are compared graphically for four deep-water areas. The computed bottom losses were determined by a mathematical model which uses a velocity gradient in absorbing liquid sediment layers. The layer thickness, density, compressional velocity, and velocity gradient were provided by sea tests and subsequent studies. (Author)
