Abstract : Nitrogen is chemisorbed at -196C on high surface area Pt-blacks to an extent that is a function of crystalline size. This report describes measurements of N2 chemisorption on ten catalysts showing a wide range of activity for the anodic oxidation of hydrocarbons. Comparison is made between the extent of N2 adsorption and the intrinsic activity of the catalyst for hydrocarbon oxidation. The results show a trend of increasing activity for those catalysts with a high figure for N2 chemisorption, though there is too much scatter to permit a quantitative correlation. (Author)
