Abstract : The higher energy excitation spectrum of ZnTe films has been studied using electron energy loss measurements and optical reflectivity. The ZnTe films were made by flash evaporation and their quality determined by X-ray analysis and absorption edge measurements. The ultraviolet reflectivity spectrum of these films compares well with that obtained from single crystals of ZnTe. The reflectivity was studied over the energy range of 2 to 15 eV whereas the energy loss measurements were made up to energies of 50 eV. A large peak in the energy loss spectrum near 15 eV has been identified as the plasma peak. Correlation between the optical data and the energy loss data has been made using a Kramers-Kronig dispersion analysis. (Author)
