Abstract : In any study involving the drawing of conclusions based upon experimental data, a preliminary analysis of the data must be made to ensure that it is reasonable and can be used as part of a valid data base. This study considers the application of this principle to the problem of determining the direction of arrival of signals at the University of Illinois Circularly Disposed Antenna Array (CDAA) System. In particular, the study is concerned with establishing the direction of arrival when the Differential Phase Mode of computation is used and when the data available are limited in quantity or erratic in quality. A brief discription of the CDAA system and the Differential Phase Mode of computation is presented. This is followed by a description of the procedures used to establish criteria by which experimental data not forming part of a suitable data base may be omitted and an evaluation of the results obtained by applying these procedures.
