Abstract : The achievement of a capability to provide the Army in the field with real time navigation and position location for all maneuver elements is of prime importance to the development of Land Combat System - I. The US Army Advanced Materiel Concepts Agency (USAAMCA) convened a Navigation Ad Hoc Working Group (AHWG) on 19 through 21 May 1970 for the purpose of providing a technical frame of reference, both current and projected, in support of the work of the land Combat System - I study groups in the Institute of Land Combat. A modified Delphi approach was used with the AHWG. The group was partitioned into five panels: inertial/aided inertial, doppler, hyperbolic, range/azimuth, and range/range. The individual panels prepared initial reports and presented these orally at the conclusion of the three day meeting. Transcripts of these individual panel reports were then circulated by the panel chairmen within their groups. Copies of the annotated reports were collected by USAAMCA and a complete draft was furnished to each individual for further comment. The results of this third iteration in the form of the consensus reports of the five panels, are presented in this report. (Author)
