Abstract : A mechanism for the strain-potential effect of silver iodide was postulated, based on the formation of edge dislocations under strain and secondary formation of point defects from impurity ion-cation vacancy complexes through movement of edge dislocations. An equation to estimate the concentration of these point defects and the related activity of mobile silver ions was developed. The theoretical equations which interrelate strain-potential, impurity ion concentration, and ionic conductance could account quantitatively for the experimental data. (Author)
