Abstract : A study of magnetoelastic surface wave phenomena in ferrimagnetic crystals is being carried out to assess their use in signal processing systems. During this first year 100 MHz and 200 MHz fundamental-frequency surface wave delay lines on LiNbO3 and quartz have been constructed, and a small magnetoelastic attenuation observed when a YIG slice is bonded to the LiNbO3 and an appropriate magnetic field applied. A partial theoretical analysis of the interaction has been made and various effects predicted for different geometries. (Author)
