Abstract : The report summarizes a study effort to determine the degree that fluidics can be used in the control of small Rankine cycle power plants under 10 kw designed for military usage. Two Rankine cycle systems, presently under development, served as baseline designs for this study; a 1.5 kw, turbine-expander unit and a 3.0 kw, reciprocating-expander unit. Task I of the program involved application studies to determine the most promising control areas for fluidics; areas under consideration were expander speed governing, boiler temperature control, overspeed and overtemperature control, condenser fan control, and start-up. Task II of the program was an experimental evaluation of key fluidic elements and circuits using a typical organic vapor, (FC-75), as the working fluid.
