Abstract : The report discusses the capability to process mass spectra semi-automatically using a computer. Time consuming data processing is eliminated and improved accuracy is obtained with the Gas Chromatograph/Mass Spectrometer/Computer system. The report describes validation of the reliability of the recently developed analytical system. Compounds belonging to a variety of general classes of chemicals were analyzed. Output from a Model 270 Perkin-Elmer Mass Spectrometer is recorded on magnetic tape using a Radiation Incorporated, Digital Data Acquisition Console. Recorded data are processed by computer (IBM 7030 or CDC 6700) into a format which displays significant masses and intensities. The processed data of mass spectra, expressed numerically and as bar graphs, compare consistently with published mass spectra. Also provided are summary reviews of the fragmentation patterns for the compounds analyzed and a collection of mass spectra organized for ready reference. (Author)
