Abstract : New ethylene-propylene elastomer vulcanizates have been developed which have extended heat and oxidation stability over state-of-the-art compounds. Vulcanizate formulations and physical properties are presented. The stability of ethylene- propylene diene type vulcanizates was achieved by a dual stabilization process. The increased thermal and oxidation resistance is characterized by better than 160% retention of tensile strength and elongation after 48 hours exposure to 400 F. This represents nearly a threefold improvement over previous state-of-the-art compounds. (Author, modified-PL)
